Creative Writing Workshop

The Creative Writing Workshop with Irish writer Jan Carson will be one of the activities in the 2025 Opening Program of the Academic Activities of the W. B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies, offering a unique opportunity to practice under the guidance of a renowned author.

Jan Carson has published three novels, three short story collections, and two flash fiction collections. Her novel The Fire Starters won the EU Prize for Literature for Ireland in 2019. Her most recent novel, The Raptures, was published by Doubleday in early 2022 and was later shortlisted for the An Post Irish Novel of the Year and the Kerry Group Novel of the Year awards. Her short story collection Quickly, While They Still Have Horses was published by Doubleday (UK) in April 2024 and by Scribner (USA) in July 2024. Her work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4, as well as RTÉ. She is a Seamus Heaney Centre Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast in 2025 and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Her first play, an adaptation of the children’s classic The Velveteen Rabbit, will be produced by the Replay Theatre Company at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast in March 2025. Her next novel, Few and Far Between, is due to be released in early 2026.
