May 1998 Following contact by Leo Ganter, Irish Tourist Board & P.O´Neill with Soletur, then Brazil´s No. 1 international tour operator, Soletur started offering tours to Ireland. c. 1,000 Brazilian tourists visited Ireland in the first year of operations. When Soletur closed, the operator Queensberry SP took over some of their tours to Ireland.
27.04.98 Peter O´Neill donated a professional scanner to the National Archives (NA) of Brazil in Rio to mark its 160th anniversary - http://www.arquivonacional.gov.br . Funds were raised at two St. Patrick´s Day celebrations in Rio and São Paulo that year with a view to restoring NA documents related to Irish immigration in 1825. Six month later 300 documents from the 1825-1829 period were restored and microfilmed.
