XVII Symposium of Irish Studies in South America “Commemoration or Celebration? The Irish Revival One Century Later"

Banner ABEI/ESP Symposium

Date: 29, 30 September 2022

Venue: USAL Universidad del Salvador, Buenos Aires, Argentina

The year of 2022 is an important one for Irish Studies in South America, as it commemorates the centenary of the Irish Free State, established in December 1922, after the three years, which lasted the Irish War of Independence. At the same time, the year of 2022 is one of changes as the world emerges from a lockdown facing the COVID-19 pandemic as a common threat. However, in terms of the arts, 2022 is the year of the centenary of artistic and literary movements such as that of the Irish Revival as well as of European and Latin American modernisms. Thus, the ABEI XVII/AEIS III Symposium of Irish Studies in South America is an invitation to contemplate the ways in which conflict and crises, such as wars and pandemics have shaped nations. At the same time, it is an opportunity to rethink the emergence of literature and other expressions of arts, which bring to the contemporary world a message of hope working through these traumas.
